Ethics, the literal meaning of it is the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation. Incessantly, this topic being discussed and translated across country, race, and religion. Each of the party has their own belief in what is right and what is wrong, which led to many ideologies of being “ethical” is. The world turns and time steadily goes on, and now we are in the technology era. Internet technically is a young technology, and people around the world passes information in just a click. This idea of general ethics being discussed every day without the user realized. Plus, there are also people who shove their “ethics” on people’s throat, convincing them that they are right and others are wrong.
Across the social media, Twitter is a perfect place for the fire to spill. Of course, Instagram and Facebook are also exposed to this kind of outbreak but the way we can just retweet the statement of truth is a flip of a coin. This situation was made worst by famous accounts backed up by their die-hard fans whenever they issued a controversial tweet. They spend their time cyberbullying in the name of ‘justice’.
The most recent case, which our national u-23 football squad’s friendly with UAE turned into a brawl on the additional time infecting the internet too. Accounts from both countries harassing each other by calling out names and blaming parties and right now (by the time this article written) UAE officials has rightfully apologies of their player’s behavior but the internet war did not stop there. Some of the Malaysians went to their Instagram account with galling words. This questions the ethics of we Malaysians, how to educate them? Thankfully, some of our football pages realized this and gave them a piece of advice, hopefully, they will change how some of the fan’s approach to this situation.
Football fans are surely a devoted one, but so are the cyber troopers. They are prone to break one of the ten commandments of computer ethics, “One shall not use a computer to harm other people”. The morality of a football player is crucial for the team, the individuality. One broken pillar, a building fell down. People really need to learn that there is a responsibility for every tap on the keyboard.
Lately, there’s a lot of case which girls reported that their pictures are being posted online, the indecent one. Breaking into one’s computer is bad enough, let alone stealing pictures. There are three possible answers on how they got the pictures, and all of them breaks three different ethical pact. It is possible to hack into someone computer through backdoor i.e. malware planted illegally online or by someone she knew. This nasty act is most possibly done by someone who has proficient skill in computer, although they could have used the skill for the greater good. The hacking act classified as a crime and ethically against the CE pact, “One shall not use a computer to steal”.
Learning is a hassle sometimes, and not everyone has the passion to learn about computer but that is the reason the people who have the knowledge better than average person tends to exploit their weakness use them to their own. A thoughtless computer technician would most likely to steal. We must absolutely refrain ourselves from braving someone else’s file as it is breaching the privacy of a human. “One shall not snoop around in other's computer files”.
Role-playing is not an alien thing to do on the internet. Devoted fans having fun playing the roles assigned by themselves based on the fictional or non-fictional character is not a sight to worry for, although it is a bit weird for another internet user. The real concern is when people went to use a false account to scam and fraud another user. On one occasion, they go as far as to request the victim’s card or even their nude. Nest time they know, their pictures been shared throughout the net or their money on the bank vanish and the criminal has deactivated their account. There is also a case where someone steals a person’s handle name and their account identity just to share sensitive sentiment or rabid ideology. The two cases are not rare, unfortunately. There are also various modus operandi but I think these two points ample to address how serious the issue is. “One shall not disguise as another person to fraud people”, fooling another person online is a serious crime.
So, I think that’s all being discussed today, and this piece has that pretty serious tone and I think that’s fit with the misconduct on the internet being the norm today. Remember, “One touch brings happiness, one-touch also brings misfortune”.
